Polished pieces: I have four pieces but I don't have any directly inspired by mentor text work, and I have a feeling you may not consider "Heads in the Sky" to be a poem. I would urge you to remember that poetry is a free art form and this poem is at the heart of what freedom is, so give it a chance. I would certainly say all of my pieces are compelling (accept my semi-generic Why I Write one).
Writers Memo's: I have included everything you could want in a memo!
Letter from one writer to another: I think my letter is decently funny and good enough to read. I think that some of the pieces I have done in this class were my best yet and I thank you for the inspiration.
List of books: My list of books isn't very impressive but I am a slow reader and like to enjoy books in small morsels.
Unifying element: I have everything linked to the letter----shnazy right!

Books I've Read
I havent completed any books but I have started reading two and here they are.
Love in the time of Cholera by Gabriel GarcĂa Marquez. My favorite line is the opening one
Love in the time of Cholera by Gabriel GarcĂa Marquez. My favorite line is the opening one
“It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.”
This line demonstrates Marquez's genius. Not only is his language beautiful but he is also laying a foundation for an entire book in one sentence! His writing is beautiful and he has really inspired me to be more direct in mine. He has also encouraged me to vary my punctuation--- its not going all that well, but I'm trying.
The Power and the Glory by Graham Greene. My favorite line so far is in the first chapter when he says "There is always one moment in childhood when the door opens and lets the future in.”
This demonstrates Greene's direct and beautifully simple writing style. I am in love with this book even though I'm not even close to finishing it!
Welcome
Doc Z,
I know over the semester it has seemed, at times, like I have my Head in the Sky. But overall I have, for the most part, Escaped the Darkness of my laziness. In your class I loved the daily lines and prompts that kept my writing ideas flowing. Over the course of the semester I mainly learned to trust my instincts when it comes to writing. I am very happy with my poignant titles and my varying tones. I feel now more than ever that I able to let the writing flow through me instead of dragging it out piece by piece. Overall I had a great time in class, but if I were in charge I would try to make it a workshop based class. That may have been your intentions with the writers groups and the weekly share, but I feel the feedback for the on screen presentations was never very helpful. Don't allow yourself to be Shackled to approved methods and teach the way you would want to be taught! In the end I would truly like to thank you and say that you have reminded me of Why I Write.
Have a great summer and thanks again,
Conner Skeen-Gaar
